If you are not using the internet on a regular basis, you are probably unaware of the many online jokes that are being made about the Internet Explorer. In the last few years, Internet Explorer has turned into the most annoying browser, due to the fact that it uses a lot of resources which slow down your internet. The first thing that you need to do in order to learn how to speed up internet connections is to change your browser. The best choice is Mozilla Firefox. This browser has many extensions which allow users to block elements such as adds, JavaScript or Flash. After you install Mozilla, you will also need to install the Adblock Plus which will block all online adds, even the most annoying video adds. Another interesting extension is the Fasterfox Lite. If Firefox is not a good fit for you, you can also try Chrome or Opera. A good extension for Chrome is FastestChrome. After you install these browser extensions, you need to turn off unnecessary add-ons. If you are using Firefox, go to Tools and click on Add-ons in order to disable unwanted add-ons and plugins. If you are using Chrome, go to Customize, Tools and then to Extensions in order to disable useless add-ons.

  • 2. Optimize your modem/router

Another way in which you can learn how to speed up internet connections is to optimize your router or your modem. This process is not as complicated as it sounds. For starters, you can try to change your router/modem to another channel as it may be used by foreign wireless devices. In order to test this, install inSSIDer, a program which scans wireless networks and their channels in your area. Find your connection in the list and look for the channel which it is on. If it shares this channel with another connection, then that is the source of your problem. Look for a channel between 1 and 11 which has preferably no connections or fewer than your previous channel. In order to change your router to the less crowded channel, you must connect to your IP address and select an alternative channel from the list found on the broadcast channel in the settings option. You can also speed up internet connection if you reposition the router/modem. Between it and the computer there should be no obstacles in order to have a better connection. In some rare occasions, it is possible for the router/modem to be obstructed by other wireless devices such as cordless phones. Makes sure that none of your wireless devices share the same phone jack.

If all the methods presented above fail you, the only things left to do is buy a new router, upgrade your internet package or switch to a new internet provider.
